Prepare for the Installation of Loft Insulation: A Guide

If you are planning to insulate the loft in your home, you may be wondering how to prepare for a visit from an insulation contractor. This article will give you all of the information you need. Read on to find out more.

Clear out your loft

Before they can add insulation to your loft, the contractors need to gain access. If the space is full of junk or belongings, it will be difficult for them to easily lay down the foam insulation. Ideally, you should completely clear out the loft space, storing items in another room. If there are any items which you cannot remove easily, you should move them to the centre of the loft space so the contractors can work around the object.

Check the fans

Your loft space will have fans installed which allow air to circulate. It can be difficult to change the position of fans once the insulation is in place so so before installing insulation, it is worth checking that these fans are correctly positioned and facing outwards. This will allow warm humid air trapped in the loft to exit.

Check that the roof is waterproof

Once you have cleared your loft space, you can perform a check the roof for leaks. It is important to do this because water leaking onto insulation can cause serious damage. Drips of water which fall on insulation can lead to mildew and mould. Start out by looking for damp areas on the floor and wooden beams within the loft. If you discover any leaks, you should have them repaired before calling in the insulation contractors.

Assess your light fittings

Next, you will need to take a look at the light fittings in your loft. If the insulation foam which is added to your loft sits too close to the light fittings, it could create a fire risk. Low lighting which is often installed along the bottom edge of a loft to create a gentle glow creates is particularly high risk. The insulation contractor will be able to assess the lighting in your loft so they can ensure that the set-up is safe. This may involve modifying the lights in your loft by adding additional boxes which protect the insulation from the heat of the light while still illuminating the loft space.

If you are interested in finding out more, you should get in touch with a company which provides loft insulation today. A member of the team will be happy to offer you further help and assistance.

However, for the past six months, I have been visiting various different types of business so I could spend some time learning from people who understand how different businesses operate.
